With the unexpected early end to the long-awaited 2024 General Election, we have seen many drastic changes in the United States government. As of now, it appears as if the Republican Party will claim control over the Presidency, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Supreme Court. So, some of you might be wondering, how will this result affect Asian Americans?
Regarding immigration, while many Asian-American families may not have any personal relations to immigration anymore, these policies could still impact some families who are trying to reunite in the United States. Similarly, possible policies may also impact asylum seekers from Asian countries and their chances of entering the United States.
On the other hand, Trump’s plan to introduce more tariffs can negatively impact small businesses due to increased prices for importing and other issues. Many Asian Americans rely on small businesses for everyday essentials and many even run these small businesses themselves. However, his goal to lower taxes for Americans will have beneficial effects for not only immigration but also all Americans.
All in all, Trump’s second term as president will bring many drastic turns from Biden’s presidency. We can only wait to see what types of policies he will enact and how they will influence the American population.
