So far, it has been about a week since President Donald J. Trump has been sworn into office. While his presidency is just underway, many of his actions may already have an influence on the Asian-American community. As of now, many of his appointments of political staffers may influence immigrant communities and their existence in the United States.
Some of his appointments, like Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and Kristi Noem, may have an influence on immigration in the future. Their actions could not only prevent the entrance of immigrants into the United States but also threaten the deportation or discrimination of Asian-American immigrants. While these changes may not directly impact many people in the Asian-American community, some people will still feel the effect of these modifications.
Other appointments, such as Kash Patel or Tulsi Gabbard, may wrongfully prosecute Chinese-American scientists and researchers for economic espionage and trade theft. Since many of these prosecutions are done without much evidence, these actions will directly impact many Chinese-American families in the United States.
In terms of healthcare, some of Trump’s choices, like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or Mehmet Oz, may restrict Asian-American access to healthcare or health insurance. These restrictions can cause Asian Americans to struggle to find the healthcare that they need to survive.
