Collin Morikawa has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting talents in professional golf. Since turning pro in 2019, Morikawa has made an immediate impact on the PGA Tour, showcasing his technical prowess, especially regarding his irons, which has earned him comparisons to some of the game’s all-time greats.

Born in Los Angeles in 1997, Morikawa is of Chinese and Japanese descent. He started playing golf at a young age. His passion for the game led him to a standout college career at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a four-time All-American. He turned professional after graduating in 2019. Six starts into his professional career, Morikawa won his first PGA Tour event, the Barracuda Championship.

Morikawa’s breakthrough came in August 2020 at the PGA Championship, where he claimed his first major title at 23. He delivered a clutch performance on the back nine, including a drive on the 16th hole that set up an eagle and effectively sealed his victory. This win made him one of the youngest players to win a major championship.

Morikawa continued his meteoric rise by winning The Open Championship the following year, making him the first player in history to win two different majors in his debut at each. His victory at Royal St George’s solidified his status as a rising star and showcased his ability to adapt his game to different conditions and challenges.

While he has yet to see as much immense success as his 2020 and 2021 seasons, this year, he claimed a victory at the Zozo Championship just a few days ago, ending a 27-month winless drought. As he continues to develop his game, Morikawa has the potential to dominate the sport for years to come.
