Last time, I discussed the CEO and co-founder of the tech giant Nvidia—Jensen Huang. However, did you know that his first cousin once removed, Lisa Su, is the CEO and President of rival company AMD?

Like her cousin Jensen Huang, Lisa was born in Tainan, Taiwan before moving to the United States at the age of three. She later attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and also a master’s degree and PhD, all from MIT.

After getting her PhD, Lisa worked at Texas Instruments before becoming the vice president of IBM’s semiconductor research and development center. In June of 2007, Lisa joined Freescale Semiconductor as its chief technology officer. She was also the senior vice president and general manager of their networking and multimedia group until she left the company for AMD.

At AMD, Lisa became senior vice president and general manager until she was ultimately appointed as AMD’s president and CEO on October 8, 2014. Almost a decade later in February 2022, Lisa also became Chair of AMD.

Through her outstanding work in the field of technology, Lisa was recognized by countless awards, such as being on Forbes’ list of “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” or being inducted into the Women in Technology Hall of Fame.

Her work has resulted in around a  50-fold increase in AMD’s stock since she became the CEO in 2014. This tremendous growth has allowed Lisa’s net worth to grow to over $1 billion, placing her among the richest people in the world.
