Two weeks ago, I overviewed a selection of the Asian American athletes present at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Now that the Olympics are well underway, I think it’s appropriate to go over some of the competitions that have ended.

One of the athletes mentioned previously was Hmong-American Sunisa Lee, who won the gold medal in the team event of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics alongside teammates Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey.

In the men’s side of Artistic Gymnastics, Chinese-American gymnast Asher Hong received a bronze medal in the men’s team event alongside teammates Paul Juda, Brody Malone, Stephen Nedoroscik, and Frederick Richard.

Another one of the athletes I discussed two weeks ago was Filipino-American Mitchell Saron, who competed in the Men’s Sabre Individual event. While he was unable to podium because of his defeat in the Table of 16 stage, he had a great performance at his first Olympic Games.

Outside of the athletes I overviewed in my previous blog about the Olympics, Chinese-American Swimmer Tori Huske won the gold medal in the Women’s 100m Butterfly event and the silver medal in both the Women’s 100m Freestyle and the Women’s 4×100 Freestyle Relay events.

Going back to the fencing competition, Filipino-American Lee Kiefer won the gold medal in the Women’s Individual Foil event, becoming the first American foil fencer to win gold medals at two consecutive Olympic Games, an achievement not to be overlooked.

At the time of writing, the United States has the most medals out of any country, with 30 medals. However, their lack of gold medals, with five total, means that our nation is in seventh place in the medal table. With nearly two more weeks left of the Olympics, there is a lot more to look forward to and many more events to occur.
